Why You’ll Love This Recipe
This salmon comes out perfectly flaky every single time, no guessing games with a thermometer or worrying about a dry, overcooked fillet. The garlic butter soaks right into the fish while it cooks, so every bite is rich and savory without much effort on your part.
It’s also just so fast. You’re looking at maybe five minutes of prep and around ten minutes in the air fryer, which makes this an easy weeknight win when you’re tired and don’t want to think too hard about dinner.
And honestly, cleanup is a dream. No splattered stovetop, no oily baking sheet to scrub. Just wipe out the basket and you’re done.
Ingredients You’ll Need
The star here is obviously the salmon, and fillets with the skin on tend to crisp up nicer and hold together better in the air fryer. Fresh is great, but frozen fillets work fine too as long as they’re fully thawed and patted dry before cooking.
Garlic is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this recipe, so don’t be shy with it. Fresh minced garlic gives you the best flavor, though garlic powder works in a pinch if that’s what you’ve got on hand.
Butter mixed with a little olive oil gives you richness plus a higher smoke point, which helps prevent burning. A squeeze of lemon juice at the end brightens everything up, and simple seasonings like salt, pepper, and a pinch of paprika round out the flavor without overcomplicating things.
If you want a little heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes is a nice addition. And fresh parsley on top isn’t required, but it makes the dish look like you tried a lot harder than you actually did.
Tips for the Best Results
Pat your salmon completely dry before seasoning it. This helps the seasoning stick and gives you that slightly crisp exterior instead of a steamed texture.
Check your salmon a minute or two before the timer goes off, since air fryers vary quite a bit in strength. You’re looking for an internal temperature of 145°F, and the fish should flake easily with a fork.
Let the salmon rest for a couple of minutes after cooking. It keeps the juices where they belong instead of running out all over your plate.
Storage and Reheating
Leftover salmon keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Let it cool to room temperature before sealing it up so you don’t trap extra moisture in the container.
If you’re in a hurry, the microwave works too, just cover it and use short bursts so it doesn’t overcook. This salmon also flakes apart nicely for salads or grain bowls the next day, so leftovers are never a chore.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to flip the salmon halfway through cooking?
Not really. Air fryers cook from all directions, so flipping isn’t necessary for fillets this size, though you can if you want extra even browning.
Can I use frozen salmon straight from the freezer?
You can, but you’ll want to add a few extra minutes to the cook time and check that it’s cooked through before serving, since frozen fillets take longer to reach a safe internal temperature.
What should I serve with air fryer garlic salmon?
Rice, roasted vegetables, or a simple green salad all work great. It’s a pretty flexible main that pairs well with whatever you already have going on in the kitchen.
Why is my salmon coming out dry?
This usually means it’s cooked a little too long or the temperature was too high. Start checking a couple minutes early and pull it as soon as it flakes easily.
